The sculpture turns to the allegorical image of Nature revealing her secrets to Science. The female figure lifts a veil, and this gesture becomes a visual embodiment of the idea of scientific knowledge. The pale alabaster of the nude body contrasts with the gilt bronze of the long draperies. Ornamental decoration of the bodice and colored accents enhance the decorative character of the work. The combination of an allegorical subject, polychromy and different materials is characteristic of European salon sculpture around the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries.
