Signature “Gory” on the banquette
The sculpture depicts a nude girl reclining on a bench in a relaxed pose. The smooth modelling of the body contrasts with the relief texture of the lion skin covering the seat. The figure is made of pale ivory, while the bench and skin are of gilt bronze, heightening the contrast in color and texture between the materials. The girl’s head rests on her hand, giving the scene an informal, intimate character. Created around 1920, the work continues the tradition of small cabinet sculptures intended to decorate private interiors.
