Oval-shaped varicolored gold snuffbox featuring a hinged lid that conceals a tobacco compartment with mirror-polished interior surfaces. The body of the item is decorated with regular engine-turning and raised chased ornaments. Inset into the center of the lid beneath protective glass is an oval medallion containing a painted portrait miniature depicting King Louis XIV of France and Navarre. The portrait inlay is enclosed within a triple ornate border, consisting of a molded gold frame, a single row of rose-cut diamonds, and a chased ornament in the form of an applied silver branch with diamond-set flowers and scrolls, all positioned against translucent red engine-turned (guilloché) enamel background.
The bottom of the snuffbox is covered with translucent red enamel over regular diamond (lozenge) engine-turned pattern and enclosed within a chased border of four-petaled flowers with leaves against stippled field. The enamel panels on the side walls of the body are visually separated by raised columns featuring garlands and scrolls. The rims of the lid, the base of the bottom, and the side surfaces around the entire perimeter are accentuated by decorative bands with a raised floral ornament.
