Two poorly legible identical marks on the polished surface, possibly depicting a rooster or a black grouse.
The rectangular gilt-silver snuffbox features a hinged lift-top lid. The interior surfaces of the body are mirror-polished. The exterior faces of the object are decorated with inlaid plaques featuring miniatures executed in the Roman micromosaic technique. The top of the lid presents an expressive animalistic scene of a lion attacking a horse. The bottom of the snuffbox features a composition depicting a jaguar mauling a kid (young goat). The side walls of the body are adorned with elegant mosaic panels showing floral compositions.
