The necessaire is designed as an elongated octagonal case with curvilinear facets and a high hinged lid in the shape of a crown, housing miniature sewing tools. Carved ivory inserts decorated with gold-toned shaped overlays are set between the thin gold-toned ribs of the case. The inserts are carved with compositions of branches, flowers, and rocaille motifs. The voluminous cast overlays are made of gold-toned (gilded) metal painted with colored enamel. These overlays depict birds, birds' nests, musical trophies, and wheat ears. One of the overlays on the lid depicts a golden figure of a cupid sharpening an arrow. Inside the case, a gold-toned grid contains slots for individual items. The set includes scissors, two needles, an awl, a cylindrical needle case with a lid, and a thimble. The items are gilded and decorated with engraving.
