Rectangular gold snuffbox with rounded corners, fitted with a hinged lid. The top of the lid is decorated with an oval painted miniature featuring a bust-length portrait of Joachim Murat, Marshal of France and King of Naples, in full dress military uniform with a sash over his shoulder and insignias. The portrait insert is enclosed within a blue enamel border with a gilt foliate pattern. The surrounding field of the lid is filled with chased floral ornamentation; its rim and edges are highlighted with thin enamel lines. The sides of the body feature rectangular reserves with regular engine-turned patterns, while the canted corners are adorned with stylized flowers against a blue enamel ground. The lower third of the body is accented by a frieze with a stylized enameled foliate pattern. The base of the snuffbox features a large rectangular insert with geometric guilloché, enclosed within a wide blue enamel frame with floral decoration.
The piece is accompanied by its authentic rectangular case with a hinged lid,
covered in red shagreen leather.
