Rectangular gold box fitted with a hinged lid. The sides of the body are decorated with wide vertical raised fluting. The top of the lid is adorned with a rectangular painted enamel miniature based on the famous 1449 painting by Petrus Christus, "A Goldsmith in his Shop" (also known as "Saint Eligius in his Workshop"). The miniature depicts the saint seated at a counter, holding a pair of scales in one hand and a coin in the other. His head is turned toward a young couple standing behind him, specifically toward the lady who is reaching out her hand to him. The enamel composition is flanked on the left and right by ornamental borders of lozenges.
