Oval-shaped gold snuffbox featuring a detachable lid. Inset into the top of the lid is a circular medallion showing a right-facing, half-length profile portrait of Empress Catherine II wearing an order ribbon across her shoulder. The portrait inlay is enclosed within a circular frame decorated with a raised wreath of ribbon-tied laurel and oak branches. The surrounding field of the lid and the side walls of the body are decorated with regular fluting and complemented along the edges by narrow friezes of delicate floral ornament.
