Rectangular gold snuffbox featuring a hinged lid. Inset into the top of the lid is an oval painted miniature showing a portrait of Emperor Nicholas I wearing a general’s uniform with an order ribbon and insignia, created after a 1852 original by Franz Krüger. The portrait inlay is enclosed within a frame set with antique-cut diamonds. The surrounding field of the lid around the miniature is filled with chased C-scrolls and flowers, and its corners are accentuated by large solitaire diamond inlays.
