The gold snuffbox with a hinged top lid is executed in the form of an inverted octagonal truncated pyramid. The surfaces of the snuffbox are decorated with gold engraved images of peonies, wisterias, and other flowers against a background of black Japanese lacquer. In the center of the outer surface of the lid, there is a circular rosette with a flower head, surrounded by two thin concentric gold rings. Around the rosette, there are images of intertwined branches with flowers and leaves. The inner side of the lid is decorated with an image of bamboo leaves. On the bottom, there is a gold chrysanthemum. The contours of the body are decorated with a triangular geometric ornament. For convenience of opening the snuffbox, a projection is provided on one of the lid facets. The inner surfaces of the body are covered with black lacquer. Struck on the rim of the lid are the maker's marks, assay marks, and the dating.
