The automaton figures are housed within a rectangular wooden case with glass front wall. The case of the automaton is mounted on a wide, forward-projecting plinth.
The independent musical movement and automaton mechanism are mounted in the plinth. The right wall of the plinth features holes for winding keys and control levers for the mechanisms, which are driven by two spring motors. The hands and heads of the musician figures are set in motion by a cam-based programming device. The musical movement is based on a brass pinned cylinder programmed for four melodies and a comb with tuned teeth. Three control levers allow to activate the mechanism, engage the autostop, and enable the automatic melody change after each cylinder revolution.
Two winding crank keys are in in the set.
