The automaton is mounted inside a glass showcase set upon a rectangular wooden base. All mechanisms are housed within the base. The front side of the base, finished in dark lacquer, is adorned with floral ornamentation crafted in the marquetry technique.

The automaton is controlled by a mechanism featuring eleven metal and one wooden cam discs. The mechanism is driven by a spring motor and is activated by a button located on the left side of the base. Adjacent to it is musical movement with a pinned cylinder programmed for four melodies, including "La Marseillaise," a comb with tuned teeth, and a separate spring motor. One of the pull-knobs activates the music, while another disables the automatic melody change after each cylinder revolution. A winding key is in the set.
