Stamped on the mirror-polished interiors of the lid and the base with the maker's mark; the charge and décharge marks of Henry Clavel and Jean-François Kalendrin (1782–1789); the date letter "P" for 1785–1786; and French owl import mark used after 1893, struck twice
Gold snuffbox features a cylindrical body with guilloché surface of concentric reeding, decorated with scattered beads and small stars. The central areas of the detachable lid and the base are adorned with circular medallions, depicting attributes of love on the lid and a floral-foliage composition against matted (pounced) background on the base. The edges of the lid, base, and side walls are ornamented with borders featuring raised vegetal patterns.
