Rocaille-shaped (cartouche-shaped) gold snuffbox fitted with a hinged lid. The sides of the body are decorated with chased shells, dynamic waves, and rocaille scrolls. The top of the lid is adorned with an expressive raised composition featuring a pastoral scene: it depicts a shepherdess with a staff in her hand seated against a landscape, and a shepherd standing before her playing a flute. The narrative scene is enclosed within shaped, molded frames of C-scrolls and sea-wave crests. The base of the snuffbox features a chased decorative rococo composition combining motifs of shells, volutes resembling arched vaults, and picturesque ruins.
