An egg-shaped (ovoid) vase set on a low raised base with a scalloped edge. The body of the piece smoothly tapers from a wide lower section to a narrow neck. The compositional focus is a dimensional, molded figure of a snake that entwines the right side of the vase body and functions as a decorative handle; the figure is covered with a textured greenish-purple glaze that naturalistically imitates scales. The front side of the vase is designed as a shaped cartouche bordered by a vibrant green trim, within which is a large stylized water lily flower with leaves and a monochrome black bud. The upper and lower sections of the body are decorated with a dense vegetal ornament consisting of scrolls, stylized chrysanthemums, and waves, executed in a blue, red, and gold palette.
