The automaton is designed as a figure of a baby standing on a wooden base covered with embossed burgundy velvet. The musical mechanism, featuring a comb, a program cylinder, and a spring-driven motor, is housed within the base. A winding key and a pull-out on/off switch button are located on the rear side.
When the spring is wound and the mechanism is activated, music plays as the baby turns his head from side to side, raises the ball several times with his right hand, and tugs the leash with his left hand; the small dog turns its head, appearing to try and catch the ball. The automaton's base fits into a square recess of a round, black-finished wooden stand with a glass dome. The set includes the protective glass dome and the stand.
