The automaton in the form of a smoking monkey figure is mounted on rectangular profiled wooden base covered with red velvet, featuring braid along the side edges and the upper rim. The monkey has papier-mâché hands and head, ginger fur, black glass eyes, mouth with an opening, and a black top hat on its head. In its left hand, the monkey holds a cane with glass knob; in its right hand, it holds a cigarette holder and a lace handkerchief.

The control mechanism with a pneumatic system and the musical movement with a steel comb, pinned cylinder, and spring drive are housed inside the base, which features a winding key on the left side and an on/off button on the top panel.

When the mechanism is activated, a melody plays: the smoker moves its right hand with the cigarette holder to the side, turns its head left and right, then brings the cigarette holder to its mouth as if taking a puff, moves its hand back to the side, and releases smoke. Concurrently, the left wrist holding the cane rotates. All actions are repeated to musical accompaniment. A winding key is in the set.
