The automaton is designed as a figure of a painter mounted on a wooden base. The base is lined with paper featuring a parquet pattern. The artist is dressed in a loose smock made of sand-colored, finely striped fabric.
During the operation of the mechanism, the figure turns from side to side, and its head lowers and rises. Inside the case, there is a detached gear wheel with cam sectors. It appears that modifications were made to the mechanism, which consequently altered the automaton's functions. A winding key is in the set.
