Here Preiss adopts a gentler tone. The girl carefully reaches toward a dove with open wings and looks up at the bird. The small figure is entirely ivory; fine carving is especially visible in the face, hair and plumage. “Girl with a Dove” formed a pair with “Boy Shooting a Bow,” contrasting tense movement with calm contact between child and bird.
