One of a pair of “Flower Girl” busts, this work presents a vivid synthesis of sculpture and colored decoration. The woman’s head emerges among large petals and leaves that form a lush vegetal frame around the shoulders. Polychrome enamel enriches individual details with red, green and other tones, while the gilt bronze retains a warm metallic sheen. The round red griotte marble base supports the rich color scheme. The pairing of the works reinforces the ornamental character of the conception. The theme of the “flower woman” is directly linked to Art Nouveau aesthetics, in which the human figure was often incorporated into the flowing world of natural forms.
