The snuffbox features a cylindrical gold body decorated with golden borders on a field of royal blue enamel over guilloché, with a detachable lid. In the center of the lid, framed by a chain of half-pearls, golden bands, and a band of white opaque enamel, there is a miniature depicting, in the grisaille technique, a Roman warrior and two citizens standing among columns. The miniature is enclosed in a triple frame with a golden foliate ornament on a field of white enamel inside a gold border. Under the lid, there is a tobacco compartment with marks on the mirror-polished surface of the base and the rim. The bottom panel of the base is decorated with a golden border on a field of royal blue enamel over guilloché, in a frame of white enamel between golden bands. The side surface is decorated with golden borders on a field of blue enamel over guilloché and golden bands and a band of white enamel between them along the lower edge.
