Rectangular silver-gilt snuffbox with rounded corners. The item features a hinged lid equipped with a scroll-shaped thumbpiece. The top of the lid is decorated with the engraved niello battle scene depicting a mounted hussar with a pike and a drawn saber pursuing a French cavalryman. The bottom features a niello image of military panoply (trophies) depicting cannons and banners, surmounted by an officer’s bicorn hat with a plume. The compositions are executed against stippled background and enclosed within rectangular frames with a herringbone geometric pattern. The side walls around the entire perimeter are also decorated with niello depictions of military attributes (banners, drums, and trumpets).
