The eyepiece tube features a circular engraved inscription in French: "Lerebours Opt, en del'obs, ire et du B.au des Longitudes – Place du Pont Neuf à Paris
A five-draw spyglass, made of white metal. The external surface of the upper tube is decorated with the painted composition depicting putti, in the manner of P. J. Sauvage (1744-1818). The scenes, executed in the grisaille technique, are set against the translucent orange ground with geometric pattern underlay.
