Table stamp box fitted with a hinged, sloping lid that conceals three internal slanted compartments for postage stamps. The smooth surface of the lid is decorated with two applied two-figure compositions illustrating the Weighing of the Heart scene from the Judgment of Osiris, originating from the ancient Egyptian Book of the Dead. The left panel depicts Anubis, the jackal-headed guide of souls to the underworld, standing before the winged goddess Isis. The right panel shows Osiris, the king and judge of the underworld, seated on a throne and holding the symbols of pharaonic power: the heka scepter (crook) and the nekhakha flail (scourge). Standing before him is his son Horus, the falcon-headed god of the sky and sun and patron of earthly pharaohs. Both mythological scenes are visually separated by a stylized raised depiction of a lotus flower positioned in the center of the lid.
