The automaton mechanism is mounted within a rectangular wooden base with chamfered vertical edges, covered in dark red velvet, and resting on black spherical feet. During operation of the mechanism, the hands holding the drumsticks raise and lower alternately, and the girl’s head turns following the movements of her hands. The actions of the automaton are accompanied by the sounds of musical movement featuring a pinned cylinder and a comb. The mechanism is wound by rotating a built-in key.
