The automaton, fashioned as a dark-skinned African woman, is mounted on circular base covered with brown velvet.
When the mechanism is switched on and a melody sounds: the woman's right hand moves to turn the wheel that acts as a bow, while her left hand replicates playing the keys of the hurdy-gurdy; she smoothly raises her head, turns it from side to side, and then tilts it while "blinking" as her eyelids with thick eyelashes lower and rise. All movements repeat several times to the musical accompaniment.
